Southaven, MS – The Mid-South recently celebrated the highly anticipated return of professional hockey to the Landers Center, set to begin this fall. As part of the launch, the organization invited fans to participate in shaping the team’s identity through a community-driven naming initiative.
The response was exceptional, with more than 1,000 submissions received. The organization extends its sincere appreciation to the community for its enthusiasm, creativity, and engagement throughout this process.
During the evaluation period, significant consideration was given to the legacy of the RiverKings name, which resonated strongly among submissions. Following consultation with community stakeholders and organizational leadership, a unanimous decision was made to honor that history while establishing a new identity that reflects a forward-looking vision for professional hockey in the Mid-South.
After a comprehensive review, three finalist names have been selected. The organization now invites the public to participate in the final phase of the process by voting for the team’s official name.
Mid-South Kingsmen
Inspired by the region’s cultural ties to “The King,” this name incorporates elements of tradition and strength, complemented by a medieval theme. It also acknowledges the legacy of the RiverKings while introducing a renewed identity that emphasizes unity, loyalty, and resilience.
Mid-South Monarchs
Drawing from similar inspiration, the Monarchs name reflects leadership, prestige, and regional pride. Representing the broader Mid-South community, it conveys a sense of authority and cohesion across a diverse fan base.
Mid-South Outlaws
Rooted in historical symbolism, the Outlaws name represents a bold and determined identity. It reflects a competitive, resilient spirit and positions the team as a strong and dynamic presence within the league.
